Get to know our Interior Designer, Samantha Cox
We’re catching up with another of our wonderful team members, Interior Designer Samantha Cox. Samantha tells us how an interest in interior design at a young age led her to a career within the industry and why she enjoys working in a multi-strength team.
Why did you choose to enter the Interior Design industry?
I have always had an interest in interior design from a young age. I was fascinated by interior design TV programmes (although they are not at all realistic!), visiting new build show homes and exploring exciting interiors. I studied at the City of Glasgow College for 3 years, gaining my HND in 3D Interior Design and spent a further 2 years at The Glasgow School of Art, achieving my BA Hons degree. Whilst studying I worked as a visual merchandiser in retail which I feel has lent itself well to my interior career!
Can you tell us a bit about your role?
My role is incredibly varied, and every day presents something new! I’ve been lucky enough to take the lead on all aspects of some fantastic projects, taking them from the initial concept stages, to client presentations, design development and seeing our designs come to life at the sample room stage. Liaising with clients, contractors and site is all part of the role, and it’s great to have the opportunity to build on my experience and establish new relationships within the industry.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part is seeing a design progress from the initial concept stages and discussions with colleagues and clients, to CGI’s, completed designs and everything in between! Since starting at Bell & Swift, I have been trusted to lead various stages of a project which has boosted my confidence and provided me with invaluable experience. It’s great working as part of a multi-strength team; everyone contributes to the design process in a different way, and we learn a lot from each other.
What are you working on at the moment?
I am currently leading one of our projects in Edinburgh. The project is a full refurb of a tired hotel. We have just completed the sample rooms and the project should reach completion by early 2024!
If we met outside of work, what should we chat to you about?
I enjoy travelling, socialising, and generally being active. New bars, restaurants or places of interest would definitely be a topic of conversation! I love exploring and trying new things.
